Meet Our Orthodontist
Helaine Kan, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Kan grew up in southern California and earned her Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology from UCLA (Go Bruins!!) where she graduated Cum Laude. She then moved to San Francisco and attended dental school at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where she graduated at the top of her class and led the American Society of Dentistry for Children. Having fallen in love with San Francisco, she stayed at UCSF and obtained her orthodontic specialty training and a Masters of Science (M.S.) Orofacial Science. Dr. Kan conducted two research projects in pursuit of her Masters Degree, one relating to cleft lip and palate and a second relating to airway and craniofacial morphology. Both of these projects allow for a more complete understanding of the orthodontic treatment of patients with cleft lip and palate and for patients with airway impairment.
Dr. Kan is honored to be a part of this team of dental specialists where nothing short of excellence is expected. She is excited to provide you and your families the area’s most confident smiles. In addition to practicing orthodontics as a hobby, her interests include skiing and coaching her kids’ soccer teams.
There is no other occupation I would rather be in. I chose orthodontics based on my own childhood experience as an orthodontic patient. An orthodontist not only improves oral health through dental alignment and correction of occlusion, they also provide patients with a confident smile, which brings so much to every aspect of an individual's life.
I really enjoy working with patients who seek orthodontic care and are looking to improve their oral health and the esthetics of their smile. I also enjoy the mechanics, the art of aligning teeth and providing optimal esthetics.
My style of patient interaction is very caring, sensitive and empathetic. I feel that my practice is all about taking care of the kids and providing care and treatment plans as if patients were my own family. My patients deserve the best possible care and attention to detail that I can provide. They deserve the oral health and self-confidence they can enjoy throughout their lifetime.
